Thermostatic mixers control the mixing ratio between cold and hot water via a sensor placed in the tempered water sent to the shower head. The temperature-sensitive sensor, consisting of a capsule of graphite wax, together with the temperature control on the mixer, controls the ratio of hot and cold water mixed. This makes thermostatic mixers relatively insensitive to the temperature of incoming cold and hot water.
